What were your inspirations for this project, and how did they align with the homeowner’s goals?
The inspiration for this project was the space itself. It had so much potential, but the layout was dark and disconnected. The front of the house looked more like the back of the house when you walked in, which felt unwelcoming. Plus there was a large dining room table that took up a lot of space and blocked access into the outdoor area and the rest of the house. When I see spaces like this, I have so many ideas on how to transform them. Creating a functional and beautiful space for this family with little kids is the kind of challenge that I love. The goal here was to create a new space that brought the family together and felt effortless, and I think we did just that!
Why do you love this project?
I love this project for so many reasons. The clients were a pleasure to work with. They trusted our process and ideas. By reconfiguring the floor plan, the kitchen became inviting and welcoming. The interior window connects the foyer to the kitchen, and the banquette area is the perfect center space that gives the table seating. The kitchen feels larger, with a great flow and more storage. The cabinetry details are traditional, but this kitchen feels distinctly fresh. Like the breeze fluttering the curtains on the windows, the kitchen feels alive and vibrant while firmly rooted in the classic utilitarian style of the English farmhouse.
