The Beach Boys’ classic album Pet Sounds turns 50 years old this May, and Brian Wilson will be spending much of 2016 celebrating it—and sending it off.
Wilson will head out on an extensive world tour, from March to October, playing the revolutionary 1966 album in its entirely. And one of the biggest highlights on the 54-date run are the two Boston shows, on June 17 and 18, where Wilson will be joined by the Boston Pops Orchestra at Symphony Hall. Tickets go on sale January 29.
“It’s really been a trip to sit here and think about releasing Pet Sounds 50 years ago,” Wilson says in a press release. “I love performing this album with my band and look forward to playing it for fans all across the world.”
Pet Sounds is widely regarded as one of the greatest albums of all time. In 2010, it was ranked #2 in Consequence of Sound’s Top 100 Albums Ever feature. Rolling Stone also named it the second-best album ever in a similar list.
The press release for the 2016 Pet Sounds tour also notes that this will be the last time Wilson performs Pet Sounds, so get it while you can. Other dates on his six-month globetrotting trek include stops in Australia, Japan, and Europe, as well as appearances at Austin’s Levitation Festival and Primavera Sound in Barcelona.
